Something So Small
September 16, 2008 at 8:38 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentAugust the 4th is the first day my little Hummingbirds showed up, to let me know they were here one of them flew to my living room door and hoovered peering into the glass till Bobby saw it and directed me to turn around and look. I had been expecting them any day and I squealed with delight. Since then I have spent many minutes standing at my bedroom window watching the two of them feed from the feeder I have hanging in the tree. Hummingbirds migrate through Lubbock in the spring and fall, some people have told me they have them in their yards all summer long, but I get them in my yard only in the fall for a brief 6 weeks.
Yesterday and today I have not seen them, they must have moved on. I loved watching the amazing tiny birds. We would spend evenings and weekends stopping for a half hour or so and delighting in them.
They are very strong little birds and very territorial, we have watched them chase off sparrows and large doves. They remind us of our little dog Honey. She will chase a big dog down the street in a flash, with the big dog looking back at her like “what is that vicious thing?”
I look forward to those brief weeks with my hummers and can’t wait till next year when they return. I spend my summers planting plants that they will be attracted to, I want them to return and bring friends.
As I have sat and watched them I have thougth about how such small things bring us great joy. I would love for you to share some of your great joys in small packages if you have time. These are a few of mine.
The smell after a rain, fall breezes, sharpened pencils, the first rose on my rose bush, summer mornings watering my hanging baskets, hummingbirds, cooing doves in the morning, cuddling with kittens, a good book and hanging out in the hammock reading it, lipton’s citrus green tea, sonic ice, the smell of my dryer outside on laundry day, and the smell of pinion pine burning in the fireplace, cinnamon rolls, clean sheets on the bed, the windows open on a rainy day or on these lovely fall days, white towels that I can bleach, my new faucets at the kitchen and utility room sinks, our new mailbox, being welcomed home with a light that automatically comes on when I drive up, lunch or coffee with friends and even better when I share that time with my children and friends, laughing at Market street the other night watching Chris and knowing he is proud of his little brother, the way Whitney looks at Chris when he walks into the room, listening to Chad recite movie lines.
You get the point~~~~ most of our finest moments come in small packages.
Just thinking and being greatful

Missing the Emerald Ilse
September 1, 2008 at 9:38 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentWhen the weather turns cooler and humid, I miss Ireland. Nothing can compare to the green —everywhere rich, vibrant green. It is so green you can taste green, fresh, alive green.
I received this e-card from a friend and would love to share it with you, take a couple of minutes and be blessed.
Love you
Tanya
